First Grade Project Days
Each month, the two first grade classes join together at least one morning instead of having the usual reading block. We have done a variety of activities, including painting pumpkins and doing several other fall projects, preparing "costumes" for our Thanksgiving play and doing some activities around "being thankful", creating holiday gifts and ornaments for our families, and watching and discussing a video about Martin Luther King Jr. Most recently we had a breakfast buffet to celebrate the 100th day of school and Valentine's Day. Breakfast was followed by a variety of activities such as filling out a book about 100 things, making Valentines, and making necklaces with 100 pieces of cereal. We even got to listen to our heartbeats and to compare our resting heartrate to our active heartrate. We ALL enjoy these opportunities to do something fun and different together, and we appreciate the support and involvement of so many parents on these special days!
Here are a few pictures of our special project days.
Owney the Schoolhouse Hound
Mrs. Boyington, our librarian, has adopted "Owney" as our schoolhouse hound. This year he is travelling around to different classrooms in our school and also at Saxtons River School. In the fall he spent a week with Mrs. I's class; the highlight of his visit was attending the first grade family Thanksgiving dinner. In February he spent a week with Miss Cloues' class, where he made a new friend named "Pinky". We miss Owney and can't wait to read about his other adventures in his special journal.
