Teaching Biography

I began my teaching career at my alma mater, Bellows Falls Union High School, directly after music school.  This was a very interesting experience, as I was teaching with all of my former teachers!  After teaching there for two years, my position was cut back, and the Saxtons River School position opened.  I was fortunate to begin teaching elementary music in this school.  I continued teaching part time at both schools for the next five years.  When the Central position opened, I decided that my true love was elementary education, and began teaching at Saxtons River and Central.  I have kept this position for the past eight years. I have been a teacher in the WNESU for fifteen years, my entire teaching career!

I encorporate a lot of ideas and theories of the Orff-Schulwerk method of teaching music, which includes movement, singing, and instrument playing.  I believe that kids should learn through the things they are best at, which often includes their "play".  I believe in "doing", with a hands-on approach to learning instruments, note reading, rhythm, and all things musical!

I love teaching elementary music education!  It gives me the chance to dance, sing, play instruments, tell stories, and produce concerts and plays.  I enjoy the enthusiasm and excellent ideas that my students share with me.  It is refreshing and exciting to share my love of music with students and staff in both schools.
